Sony and Disney Strike Deal to Keep Spider-man in The MCU

Sources report Sony and Disney have reached a new deal allowing Spider-man to continue swinging in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Joker may be sucking up all the comic book movie oxygen in the room but fans have still been mourning the very public Sony and Disney divorce last month that left sole custody of our favorite web slinger with Sony. Poor Tom Holland, considered by some as the best live-action Spider-man to date, wasn’t even given the option to split his time between his warring mom and dad. But now Deadline is reporting the two parties have reconciled and have reached a new deal allowing Spidey to still swing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While details of the agreement aren’t totally clear yet, Sony and Disney will apparently co-produce Spider-Man 3, set for release on July 16th, 2021. The new deal also allows our friendly neighborhood Spider-man to appear in at least one additional MCU film.

“I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it,” said Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige. “Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.”

“This is terrific. Peter Parker’s story took a dramatic turn in Far From Home and I could not be happier we will all be working together as we see where his journey goes,” said Sony’s Amy Pascal. “This has been a winning partnership for the studios, the franchise and the fans and I’m overjoyed it will continue.”

Spider-Man 3 will complete the trilogy that started with Homecoming and serve as an ending to the hero’s time in the MCU. Watch this space for more information
