Wonder Woman 2 Set in the 1980s?

Will Princess Diana battle Soviets Spys during the cold war?

ScreenRant is reporting the sequel to this year’s phenomenal hit Wonder Woman will be set in the 1980s.

“The story of Wonder Woman 2 will be another historical adventure prior to the modern day DCEU. Set during the 1980s, the film will send Diana against the forces of Soviet Union in the closing days of the Cold War. The production team is expected to remain on board for the sequel, with confirmation that Geoff Johns is developing Wonder Woman 2‘s script with Jenkins (who is still in negotiations, with all evidence and word of mouth pointing to her return once the contracts are signed).

As fans use their imagination to picture the sequel – swapping out the battlefields of World War I for the espionage and maneuverings of Moscow – the last detail may be the biggest relief. The report also confirms that Chris Pine will be returning, once again acting as Diana’s ally Steve Trevor. Exactly how that’s possible given the conclusion of his story in Wonder Woman… may be the real question moving forward.”

If true, and depending on the timing of the sequel, this news may take on a bit of real-world political intrigue. If the film drops in the next three years, it will be making bank just as President Trump (who has his own Russian issues to deal with) is about to face the electorate.

As for Steve Trevor’s return, this has always been a no-brainer because Gadot’s and Pine’s chemistry was off the chain in the original. The only question is how will DC and Warners handle it? When season 2 of  the 1970s TV series jumped a generation and landed in modern times, Lyle Wagoner returned to play Trevor’s son, Steve Jr. Chances are, we’ll get a more satisfying plot twist to bring Diana’s true love 70 years into the future. The Mary Sue has five ways this could happen.

My hope was the film’s setting would be the late 1960s. That era certainly has more social issues for Wonder Woman to tackle. But I’m intrigued with this rumor just the same. What are YOUR thoughts? Leave them in the comments section below.
